Today’s greenhouses are no longer the simple structure covers of the old days. The rise in manpower costs in many countries, together with the advancements in technology, has opened the possibility for our industry to optimize and refine this tool of growing platform. Once we have selected the growth we want to cultivate in the greenhouse, we also know what its optimal conditions are – in terms of nutrition (fertilizers, water quantities, CO2 enrichment) and the optimal climatic conditions.
Today we know how to turn the interior of the greenhouse into a detached climate zone for what is happening outside it. All thanks to advanced systems that are synchronized with automation processes. Once we have set up the conditions that we want in the greenhouse and receive the information of what happens outside from the meteorological station we installed in the project, the information is collected at any given time and been used to control the various systems at the same time to:
- Opening the side curtains or/and the window on the roof in favor of natural ventilation
- Turn on the artificial lighting If there is not enough solar radiation entering the greenhouse
- Activating the fans and circulators If the temperature rises and you need to evacuate excess heat
- Spread the thermal screen before a cold night or open the shadow net because the outside radiation is too high
These are just examples of the day-to-day integration happens in our projects. We have committed to our clients to design the project with economic thinking to reduce running costs and to get the highest yields they can – automation is an important tool for farmers to reach these goals.
